The action-packed, fast-growing sport is making its way to town. This semi-professional soccer team coming to Albany even has a name. The SOWEGANS Soccer Club will be Southwest Georgia’s premier men’s amateur soccer team.

According to a recent report, founder Josh Duckworth said forming the team has been in the works for quite some time. The team will be a part of the Gulf Coast Premier League, which is the Gulf Coast’s highest level of amateur soccer. Teams from Georgia to Louisiana compete within the league.

Typically, players range in age from 18 to 26. However, there is no age limit! Players are generally high-level college players or post-college players.

According to the website, there will be several tryouts before the initial season. They will include both invitation-only and open tryouts. For now, those will be held January through April 2023. Email [email protected] if you would like to be added to the potential player pool.
