It’s music to our ears! This year is no ordinary year for the symphony in The Good Life City. In fact, the Albany Symphony Orchestra’s 60th Anniversary events are kicking off the special season with a fundraiser on Thursday, September 28th.
About the Albany Symphony Orchestra’s 60th Anniversary events
Shake things up this month when the Albany Symphony Orchestra’s 60th Anniversary events kick off with a fun fundraiser, “Shaken, Not Stirred,” at the Flint RiverQuarium from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on September 28th. Dust off your finest cocktail attire for an evening of music, drinks, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and “Best Dressed” awards. Tickets are $75 in advance.
Next up, in keeping with the James Bond theme, the orchestra will present the “Sounds of 007” on Saturday, October 21st. Think 60 years of Bond movie music from “Dr. No” to “Skyfall,” performed by a full orchestra and two vocalists.
Then, on December 5th, it’s the community favorite and long-time Albany Symphony Orchestra tradition, “Peppermint Pops.” This all-ages show features all the glitz of the holidays with audience participation, special guests and a few surprises!
More 60th Anniversary events in 2024
The celebrations continue in 2024 with three more of the Albany Symphony Orchestra’s 60th Anniversary events. On March 16, 2024, there’s a special performance of “St. Georges’ Sword and Bow.”
The orchestra, along with two guest actors, will bring the real-life story of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, to life through music and more. Learn more about this larger-than-life personality who was a French violinist, a contemporary composer of Mozart, an award-winning fencer and fighter in the French Revolution.
Later that day, it’s another fundraising event, the “St. Patrick’s Day/Crawfish Festival,” at the Thronateeska Heritage Center. More information about the March event will be announced later.
Finally, wrapping up the special 2023-2024 season is “Beethoven’s 253rd Birthday Bash” on Saturday, April 20, 2024. You won’t want to miss this season finale, celebrating Beethoven, as choruses from throughout southwest Georgia join the orchestra.
